The Beginning
Danske Pickleballers grew from a single moment in New York City.
On a visit to his father, Joachim – one of our founders – was dragged along to a spontaneous pickleball session in a schoolyard in East Harlem.
He had never tried the sport before.
But from that first dink – he was hooked.
All around NYC’s parks he saw the same scene again and again:
courts filled with people of all ages, all levels, all backgrounds.
People laughing, learning, playing, chatting — sharing the same small court with great energy and a love for the sport.
It wasn’t just a sport.
It was a sense of belonging.
It was pure joy.
It was magic.
That was the moment Joachim knew.

Bringing Pickleball to Denmark
How Pickleball in Harlem Became a Movement in Copenhagen
When Joachim returned to Copenhagen, he invited his good friend Mathias to try pickleball for the very first time.
They rented a badminton court, drew a kitchen line and put together a setup that was more creative than pretty – but it worked.
And Mathias got just as hooked as Joachim.
Shortly after, they joined forces with their friend Lucas, and together they founded Danske Pickleballers:
a club for everyone who wants to play, learn, laugh, challenge themselves and be part of something bigger.
In true grassroots style they started chalking courts in the city’s parks, bought paddles, balls and nets, and invited everyone who walked past to join in.
People came – friends, students, travellers, parents, beginners, the curious – and the club grew faster than any of them had ever imagined.
Pickleball was no longer just an idea.
It had become a movement.
From Chalk Lines to National Tournaments
Today, Danske Pickleballers is one of Denmark’s fastest-growing pickleball clubs.
We train every week in Copenhagen
We host social events, tournaments, training sessions and club gatherings.
We compete – and win medals – at national pickleball tournaments
We welcome international players every single week
And our Facebook community has grown to over 400+ members.
